Introducing: Laura Dickson. Founder of Women In Media.
Hello, I'm Laura and the founder of the Women in Media Group here at Glasgow of City College. I worked in the Television industry for 15 years in various roles including Studio Director, and across genres such as Sport, News, and Entertainment.
My highlights from my career are working with Lorraine Kelly on STVs Children's appeal, Directing a live performance by Spice Girl Mel C and being part of the team which won an RTS Scotland award for Best Daytime Programme for Live at Five on STV2.
I'm originally from the Island of Mull and have always loved Television. I am your typical viewer - News, Soaps, Dramas, Documentaries - My planner is like a spider's web so not to have any clashes!
I achieved my HND at this college (Formally Building and Printing) and it was exciting to have a change in career in 2019 to come back to the college and teach. My favourite part of the job is meeting enthusiastic students who love TV as much as I do and watching them be creative in the content they make. Plus getting the gossip!
What I'm currently watching: LOADS! Give me a 9pm Drama anyday! Plus the Harlan Coben dramas that are currently on Netflix. Oh...and my soaps!!
What I'm currently listening to: Heart 90s! Radio 2 - Pop Master!
Favourite TV Show from the Past: Golden Girls, Friends, Frasier, Vicar of Dibley
Favourite show on Netflix: Afterlife! Wow!
Favourite Motto: Love many, trust few, and always paddle your own canoe
