Introducing: Megan O’Farrell. Journalism Ambassador.
Hi! My name is Megan O’Farrell, I’m 23 and currently in my second year of a HND in Practical Journalism.
Being a journalist is something that (bit cliché) has always been a dream of mine. I first became interested in journalism when I was around 11 years old.
Jacqueline Wilson was my favourite author at the time and after reading her autobiography and learning she began her career as a journalist, in Scotland, in the 70s, nothing else has seemed to fit for me like journalism does.
As well as studying full time, I’m Depute Social Media Editor and a content contributor for COGC’s journalism site, Citylive. I’m also beginning to pick up freelance work for charities and other outlets.
In my spare time I enjoy reading, playing the bass and listening to music. I also have a Jack Russell Terrier called Chewie (big Star Wars fan!) who keeps me on my toes.
In the future I’d love to work as an investigative journalist or maybe a features writer, I’m still unsure.
What I’m currently watching: Inventing Anna on Netflix, it’s a true story which is pretty hard to believe at times!
What I’m currently listening to: Biffy Clyro’s album, A celebration of endings, and Nothing but thieves’ Broken machine.
Favourite TV show: Probably Gilmore Girls.
Favourite motto: (not really a motto, but my favourite Bukowski quote) “Some people never go crazy, what truly horrible lives they must lead.”
