Introducing: Gemma Alexander. TV Ambassador.
Hi my name is Gemma Alexander, I’m 20 years old from Falkirk and I’m currently in my 3rd year of my Television degree. I have an aspiration to work behind the camera and would love in the future to do some work preferably in a studio but I would love to do some documentary & drama programmes. Some of my other passions aside from television include music, drama, photography and being a full-time Harry Styles fan.
A female I find very inspirational within the industry is Davina McCall as she has faced many difficult challenges within her personal life but has never feared covering emotional subjects in one of her most successful cameos, Long Lost Family. In some of her other formats, she oozes her upbeat, radiant personality with some of my favourite appearances being Big Brother & The Masked. She is very professional, hard-working and overall a great gal to look up to!
What I’m currently watching: A programme I have been loving recently is Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway. From someone who has been so interested to work on studio shows, I find it so interesting and inspiring watching the vast amount of content they fit into one episode and the extent of work the production team undertake. I look forward to this programme coming round every year and can’t wait to watch the rest of the series.
My favourite TV show: I have many favourite TV series that are my absolute favourites and I always revert back to, so it’s really difficult to choose one. One that stands out to me with strong influential women in high power roles is Grey’s Anatomy. Shonda Rhimes, the creator, has always been pushing for women in the industry, especially finding bold women in her productions and has created so many compelling creations through this.
What I’m currently listening to: I have recently been really enjoying podcasts to relax and rewind in my spare time. Alyx Ross, one of our fellow Women in Media gals, has an amazing podcast, available on all streaming platforms, that I make sure to listen along every week. Alyx speaks about any topics on her mind, rants she has been needing to have and gives an insight into her crazy life. If you haven’t listened yet, listen!
My favourite motto: I’m a massive Harry Styles fan due to the endless positivity he radiates through all his work. A very simplistic but true motto he always uses is “Treat People with Kindness”. I totally believe that this radiates well into our industry as when we are pushing for a more diverse community, we should always remind others and ourselves to be just be kind.
